Funerals or cremations often take place with the parish church, but on other occasion may occur at the crematoria in High Garrett, Chelmsford or Colchester. The availability of the family, minister and funeral directors are key factors in deciding the time a service may take place.

The initial contact with clergy is sometimes made directly by the family, but may happen through a funeral director.  A minister then works with the family and funeral director to arrange the most appropriate day, time and location for a funeral service.

It is a tough time and, and within the resources available, we hope to provide both support and Christian hope.

Not all of the the church yards are open for burials. Those that are open have individual policies about burials.

Naturally you can always ask the Reverend Rose Braisby on 01245 361927, or at revrosebraisby@btinternet.com

A policy on burials in the churchyard:
Gosfield and Greenstead Green PCC.
A- Coffin burials
In normal practice, where there is space, the following persons might expect to be buried
within the parish church yard.
1. Individuals who live within the confines of the parish boundaries.
2. Individuals who are active members of the congregation and on the electoral roll.
3. Individuals who are to be buried within the same plot as a family member already
buried in the church yard.
4. Individuals who have lived within the parish boundary for a large part of their life
and have moved out of the area for reasons of care.
B-Burial of cremated remains
The nature of the burial of cremated remains gives slightly greater flexibility. This will
normally take place within the boundary of the defined ‘Garden of Remembrance’. The
only exception being remains that are to be placed in the plot where a family member is
already buried. In normal practice, where there is space, the following persons might
expect to have their cremated remains buried within the parish church yard.
5. Individuals that have for an extended period of time had a strong link with the
parish church.
Remains will not normally be buried in a casket.
Where there is difficulty coming to a decision about the appropriateness of a burial the
matter will be discussed with the standing committee of the PCC.
